As mentioned  by RIM during the BB world conference in Orlando last May,  RIM is having series of BB10Jam sessions around the globe. The registration for this event was opened last month on June 12, 2012. Within  hours the registration was closed since all available slots were filled in. This jam session for  is planned to be held on 10 July 2012. RIM also mentioned that participants will get BB10 Alpha devices.

So, Today is the day and the BB10Jam is held in Jakarta at Marriot Hotel in Kuningan South Jakarta. Participants  are very enthusiastic to attend the sessions and queuing at registration desk. However, not all participants will receive BB10 Alpha Device. Those who received a notification email from RIM will get the device, but they will have to present their application or concept of application to the panel.

So folks, enjoy the jam sessions and congratulations for those who receive the BB10 Alpha devices and also the lucky winner in the drawing at registration desk for a new blackberry device.

During Blackberry World Conference 2012 1-3 May in Orlando, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins unveiled a blackberry 10 OS and a prototype of blackberry 10 Alpha device. RIM has made their message LOUD and CLEAr that:

“The purpose of this seeding is to give BlackBerry 10 Jam developer attendees a testing device to create excitement as they start to develop BlackBerry 10 applications alongside us.

To be clear, this is not a BlackBerry 10 device. It’s the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. It includes a modified version of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS which shows the path to the BlackBerry 10 OS, which has been customized to a phone. This device will allow developers to test the applications they are building with our BlackBerry 10 toolsets.”

Unboxing my BBX device alpha:

 during the Key note speech by RIM CEO, he demonstrated a working blackberry 10 alpha device. unfortunately when we receive it, only setup menu and browser that is available OS: BlackBerry 10 Developer Preview V 10.0.4.197.

as the first glance of BBX device is very similar to Playbook, I then tried to port some playbook apps (ported from android) in *.bar format to the alpha device. Some of the apps and games work flawlessly while other did not work at all. Browser in BBX is incredibly fast using wifi and HSDPA channel. unfortunately we still cannot use the phone and sms function, although data connection is functioning properly.  well anyway, this is still alpha device and far from consumer version.
