[Tips] Ipod Nano 6th Generation Tips and Tricks

[Tips] Ipod Nano 6th Generation Tips and Tricks

Sep 25, 2012

Since the update to FW 1.1 and now 1.2 some ipod Nano 6th gen users complaining about some issues they had with the Nano. There are at least 3 issues that always been complained about:

  1. How to change the screen orientation/rotate the screen
  2. While playing music, it goes to sleep and music stop playing
  3. How to f ully stop a played song (not pause it)

Here is some tips and tricks that you can use to overcome the problems:

Changing screen orientation/rotate the screen

  • The 6th generation iPod nano doesn’t have an accelerometer, unlike ipod touch, iphone and ipad  but its screen can still be rotated to match how you’re looking at it
  • Put two finger a bit distance on the nano screen. put each finger at a corner of the nano’s screen. This can be opposite corners (for instance, one finger at the top right corner of the screen and another finger at the bottom left corner, or vice versa) or on the corners on the same side (top left and bottom left, for example).
  • Twist both fingers at the same time and in the same direction (clockwise or counter clockwise). The screen should rotate 90 degrees with your fingers. If you want to rotate the screen more than 90 degrees, repeat these steps.
  • Remove your fingers from the screen when it’s oriented the way you want and that orientation will remain until you change it.

While playing music, it goes to sleep and music stop playing

Here is exactly why it is happening. The 1.1 update introduced a feature that would prevent you from accidentally leaving ipod nano playing with no headset inserted. It is kind of headset detection. This feature pauses playback when the screen goes dark if it does not detect a fully inserted headset.

How to solve it? there is two potential problems:

  1.  Headphone jack. Often fixed by fully inserting headphones until you hear a “click” sound. I have some headphone that works perfectly and some just cannot reach to the bottom of the port. Sometimes fixed by cleaning headphone port. Rarely fixed by switching headphones. Potentially an issue of a faulty headphone port, in which case you may be hosed, or not –
  2. The software. I have had this problem several times, and it has always been the software. Here is how I fix it:
  •  Plug your ipod into your computer and open iTunes
  • Select your iPod from the left side menu, and go to your music.
  • Begin playing music off of your iPod (not your computer) and skip a song or two and pause/unpause it once or twice.
  • Properly eject your iPod.
  • Plug in head phones, start playing some music, hit the power save button or let it go into powersave itself, and keep enjoying music.

How to f ully stop a played song (not pause it)

I am using my nano as a watch and this really annoying when I want to check the time, from sleep mode then my nano showing the now playing screen and you have to scroll to main screen and touch the watch icon.

Here is some tricks to do it:

  1.  At the now playing screen, go to the last song and press the forward button – the songs stop playing
  2. or at the now playing screen, go back to main screen and press radio – will show no radio signal – go back to main screen-song stop playing
  3. connect nano to itunes once detected eject properly
hope this help folks
